An adaptive façade envelope developed through a parametric model

Hotel Altay 5*Development of an adaptive façade envelope.
DDC-Make worked with Padhod Architects on concept development and created the façade’s parametric model. The model controls panel opening, orientation and perforation in relation to noise, solar exposure and views, without numerical simulations.
01 — Context
Hotel Altay 5*An envelope between hotel and landscape
The facade concept for Hotel Altay 5* responds to different room positions, views and environmental conditions.
Instead of a uniform static cladding, the proposal uses a panel system with controlled changes in openness, orientation and perforation.
02 — Principle
Hotel Altay 5*The pine cone as a model of change
Different conifer species are present across the Altai region. The way pine-cone scales open and close provided the starting point for the envelope’s adaptive logic.
The reference was not copied as a form, but translated into rules connecting each panel with the facade as a whole.
03 — Opening and perforation
Hotel Altay 5*Different criteria, shared geometry
Panel openness was considered in relation to solar exposure, views and noise. These criteria were used as design inputs, without numerical performance simulations.
Perforation and panel orientation vary within a defined system, producing a gradient across the large facade field.
04 — Parametric development
Hotel Altay 5*From rules to facade identity
The parametric model enabled control over a large number of panels and testing of how local changes affect the building as a whole.
The result is an envelope concept whose identity emerges from a legible logic of variation.
